18 courses theorbo by Matteo Sellas, Venice year 1647.

    Cost: 40 Euros

The drawing/plan is realized on one sheet measuring cm  90X270 (35,43” X 106,29”) and has been realized to satisfy the requirements of early instruments  luthiers and students.

This theorbo was built by Matteo Sellas in Venice in the year 1674. It is a very rare example of 18 courses theorbo.

The instrument, property of “Fondazione d'Arco”, was studied by skilled staff from “Civica Scuola di Liuteria di Milano” and from “Società Italiana del Liuto”.

The work, started in 1993, ended in 1996 and the outcome of this research were spread with a show and a conference-concert, and then issued on an article by Tiziano Rizzi for the “Società Italiana del Liuto” newsletter.

After more than 10 years the acquired data have been underwent to a new elaboration using the most recent technologies and computer science methods, and a new actual size dimensional plan, which quotes a graphic restoration (technical drawing) and even integrated photographic details that show the features of the instrument, was realized
